Forging offers uniformity of composition and structure. Forging results in metallurgical recrystalisation and grain refinement as a result of the thermal cycle and deformation process. This strengthens the resulting steel product particularly in terms of impact and shear strength.
Forged steel is generally stronger and more reliable than castings of same material due to the fact that the grain flows of the steel are altered, conforming to the shape of the part.

On August 24, 2020, the independent supervisor authorized by Japanese Client visited Shenyang Getai Hydropower Equipment Co., Ltd. for the FAT inspection of Pelton runner manufactured by Getai Hydropower for Kanden Kurobe HPP in Japan. Kanden Kurobe HPP is a well-known Japanese government project, while the Pelton runner for this project is the largest integrally-forged CNC-machining Pelton runner ever manufactured by Getai for its Japanese clients, with D1 of 2520mm, weight of 10,400kg, rated output of 95MW and rated head of 545.5m.
This inspection lasted for 3 days, which mainly includes the dimension inspection, PT, profile inspection, roughness inspection and hardness test on the runner. The Japanese Client has made strict requirements for product processing technique and quality, while the supervisor worked very hard in a rigorous manner, and set high standards for the inspection and testing of each data. Because of the rich experience, advanced processing technique and excellent product quality, Getai Hydropower won the approval of the supervisor and the product eventually was inspected by the supervisor as qualified. The FAT inspection was completed successfully on August 26, and the Pelton runner has been packaged for shipment to Japanese Client.
